A Wintertime Reflection

The world is always up in a hurry to get to where we are programmed to believe we need to get to. Flying here, driving there, working here, yadda yadda.

HERstoricaly winter time was the time of rest. Mother earth takes her time heal, to rest, to rejuvenate. Many many animals, plants and trees follow suit. Anishinabek/Onkwehonwe take this time to rest as well. HERstorically we would be gathered around the lodges, the story tellers would have us captivated by the many stories. Our Elders would be sharing their knowledge. Medicines would be made, family bonding and community unity would be at its height. Snow games would be played…songs were sung.

As this blast of arctic air has much of Turtle Island under severe storm watch, pay attention to the teachings within the teachings. Don’t blame global warming, or nanotechnology, weather modification…etc.

Remember to be who you are. You are supposed to be resting, or at least taking it easy. This weather should serve as a reminder of who we are, and what we are really supposed to be doing.

Being born and raised in this colonial settler way of life, it is much much more difficult to innerstand all of this. It is much harder to actually try and slow things down, when rent is due, bills are due etc….but look for the teachings. If there is a will, then there is a way. Right now, our mother is saying….find that way.
